Obituary

Augusta Randau Reischauer was born at Alfeldt, Germany, August 29, 1834, and died at the Story City Sanitarium November 20th, 1916, at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 22 days.

She came to America in 1857 and was married to Frederick Reischauer February 12 of the same year. To this union were born ten children--two sons and eight daughters.

Her companion was called to his reward 23 years ago. Also five children preceded her to the better land, namely, Mrs. Doretta Schlegel, Mrs. Julia Hollingsworth, Mrs. Mary Schlegel and two dying in infancy.

Five children survive her, namely, Mrs. Johanna Bockwoldt, Mrs. Lena Miller, Mrs. Clara Kammin, Mrs. Ella Grove and Mr. Charles F. Reischauer. 23 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren also survive her.

She lived on the Reischauer homestead until 1906, when she moved to Story City, where she remained for three years. At this time she became unable to care for herself and stayed with her children until Sept. 15, 1915. She ten became to feeble that she needed the care of a nurse and was therefore taken to the Story City sanitarium.

Sunday, November 12. she took seriously ill with erysipelas and suffered with this disease for seven days, and passed away Monday morning at one o'clock.

At the age of fourteen she was confirmed into the German Lutheran church and remained true to this faith. She was one of the early pioneer settlers and thus endured many hardships which she bore with much patience always trusting in the Lord. The reaper of death has taken a loved one from us. No one can fill the vacancy, but our dear Saviour, who knows best and to whom will we submissably bow.
