The funeral services for the late Fred Kokemillter was held Sunday afternoon, Jan. 16, at 1:30, from the residence in Harrison township and at 2 o'clock at St. Paul's Lutheran church. The relatives and close friends gathered for short service at the house and many others at the church.

The text which Rev. Schliepsick used was chosen from 2nd Cor. verses 1 to 5. Mrs. Schliepsiek and Miss Elsa Moeller beautifully sang three selections. The Misses Theresa and Freda Murken, Mrs. Wm. Pet and Miss Clara Peter had charge of the flowers. The pallbearers were Julius Krumm, Fred Ahrens, Henry Kammin, F. E. Peter, Joe Wheeler and Geo. Peter.

Mr. Kokemiller was born at Eisenhagen, Hanover, Germany on the 7th of December, 1860. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, remaining faithful to the church of his confirmation unto his end. At the age of nineteen he entered the army, in which he served two years.

On the 12th of November, 1881, he came to America and located in Story county. Later he purchased a farm in the Mackey community where he lived to end of his days. In 1891, on the 17th day of September he was united in wedlock to Miss Catherine Happel. This union was blessed with eight children, one of whom died in infancy.

On Nov. 3, 1922, Mrs. Kokemiller's death cause the family great grief, which has a lasting effect on the husband. From the time of the death of his wife Mr. Kokemiller was very lonesome. Of late he apparently was feeling the decline of his days and was advising his children what they should do in case of his demise.

With a peaceful though sudden summons, Mr. Fred Kokemiller left this earth on the 12th of January, 1927. His age was 66 years, 1 month and 5 days.

His death is mourned by his children, Mrs. Henry Mohr, Mrs. John Fox, Mrs. Henry Haerther, George, Carl, Mary and Ella. The last four mentioned were living at home with their father at the time of his death, and two sisters were also at his bedside when he passed away. Six grandchildren, one brother, George, and two sisters, Mrs. Lena Stoll and Miss Augusta Kokemiller, survive him.

With the death of Mr. Kokemiller the family suffers the loss of a kind father and St. Paul's church one of its oldest members.

We loved him, yes we loved him,
But the angels loved him more,
And they have sweetly called him
To yonder shining shore.
The golden gates were open;
A gentle voice said, "Come."
And with farewell word unspoken
He calmly entered Home.

Those from a distance at the funeral were Mr. George Kokemiller, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mohr, Mr. and Mrs. John Fox, Mr. Paul Happel, Mr. Tobias Wilhelm, of Atkins; Mr. Carl Stoll of Cedar Rapids and Mr. Fred Schroeder of Granville.
