Funeral services for Herman T. Schlimmer, 72, Marshalltown and formerly of Davenport, were held Dec. 9, 1996 at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport, with burial in the National cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal.

Mr. Schlimmer died Dec. 5 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

The son of Herman C. and Gladys Becks Schlimmer, he was born July 23, 1924 in Davenport. He married Betty J. Stull Feb. 14, 1943 in Davenport. She died Feb. 28, 1996.

Mr. Schlimmer was employed as a carpenter at various companies, retiring in 1985.

During World War II he served in the Army Air Forces. He was a single engine aircraft pilot and was in the Air Force from August 1944 to October 1945.

Mr. Schlimmer was a member of American Legion Post No. 25, AOPA, Class 44J Flight School and Carpenter's Union Local 4. His hobbies and interests included woodworking, flying, gardening, cooking, painting and drawing.

He is survived by 3 daughters, Cheryl Price, Des Moines; Penny Goldermann, Davenport and Sandra Boles, Longwood, Fla.; 4 sons, Michael, Tipton; Thomas, Bettendorf; David, Mechanicsville; and Aaron, Las Vegas; 14 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Pamela and a grandson, Craig.

Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
