OBITUARY
Darlene Lois Harvey, 94, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on October 24, 2023. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Urbandale United Church of Christ (UCC) where the family will receive friends at noon, one hour prior to the 1:00 service.

Darlene was born July 2, 1929, in rural Kellerton, Iowa to Carl and Doris Rainey on what is now a “Century Farm”. She married her high school sweetheart, Paul Harvey, in 1949 and they made their home in Urbandale, Iowa where they raised their three children.

Darlene had a strong faith and spent over 60 years as a member of UCC volunteering her time as a caregiver and any other duties needed. She was very active in the community as a member of the Urbandale Lioness Club and for many years led a walking class for Urbandale Park and Recreation.

Darlene was everyone’s favorite mom to all our childhood friends and favorite babysitter to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed many little league and hockey games and was also their biggest fan.

After retirement, Darlene and Paul were fortunate enough to spend many winters in San Diego where their son, Terry resided. She loved the calming ocean and the beautiful sunsets.

Her last favorite activity was sitting in the sun on her back porch and greeting her many friends and neighbors as they stopped by to visit. She loved you all!

Darlene is survived by her brother, Richard (Karen) Rainey of Ankeny, and her children, Deb (Bill) Rogers of Des Moines, Terry Harvey (Martha Quinne) of San Diego, CA, and Brenda Fuller (Mike Meredith) of Bloomington, MN, four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her parents and her sister, Carleta.
