Obituary—G. C. Pollard

Grover C. Pollard, son of Nathaniel Pollard and Rebecca Ann Pollard, was born February 14th, 1886, in Rollins County, Kansas, into a family of 12 children, and after a lingering illness departed from this life in the Decatur County Hospital at Leon, Iowa, July 26th, 1952, being 66 years, five months and 12 days of age.

His early years were spent on a farm west of Derby, Iowa, where he later attended a nearby country school. As a young man he lived in Derby and Milo, Iowa.

On February 15th, 1911, he was united in marriage to Kizzie Jane Griffin in Milo. It was a short time later that he joined the Methodist church there. Three children were born to this union: Evelyn, Ferne and Howard.

The family residence was removed to Eagleville, Mo., and later to Kellerton, where in 1933 he located in the grocery business. This had been home for him and for his family since.

He was active in the Kellerton Methodist church, the Masonic Lodge and the IOOF as long as his health permitted. He was always keenly interested in school and civic affairs, as well as in all activities for the church and community betterment.

Four infant brothers preceded him in death.

Left to memorialize him, in addition to his wife, are his three children: Evelyn Sissel and Howard Pollard of Kellerton, and Ferne Gleason of Des Moines, Iowa; one brother, Dewey Pollard of Crescent City, California; six sisters: Grace McFerren of Lebanon, Oregon, Olive Campbell of Buffalo, Wyoming, Leta Swanson of Fallon, Nevada, Cora McIlney of Odessa, Texas, Lula Miller of Corydon, Iowa, and Josie Boor of LeRoy, Iowa; six grandchildren, other relatives and numerous friends.

Services were held from the Methodist Church in Kellerton at 2:00 p.m,, on
July 29th, 1952, with the Rev. W.T. Miller officiating. Interment was in Maple Row cemetery at Kellerton.
