KOUT, OCHEYEDAN POSTMASTER, DIES

Was Past President Of Iowa Postmasters

Joseph H. Kout, 61, postmaster of Ocheyedan since 1943, was found dead Friday at his home in Ocheyedan. He was stricken in the doorway of the bedroom at the home.

Mrs. Kout found the body at noon when she came home from the post office.

Mr. Kout had served as mayor for two terms and was a past president of the Iowa League of Postmasters. He was active in promoting construction of the new community building in Ocheyedan. He was president of the Commercial Club in 1938.

He was born Sept. 25, 1904, in Ocheyedan and was a lifelong resident of this community. He was graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1923. He married Pearl Graves Aug. 23, 1926, in Ocheyedan.

Besides the widow, a sister, Mrs. Martha Kallsen of Worthington, survives.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday at the Methodist Church.

The Rev. Gale Hawhee, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the Ocheyedan Cemetery under the direction of the Walton Funeral Home.
