Funeral services for A. Thomas Carlisle, 83, Atalissa, were held April 8, 1997 at the First Church United in West Liberty, with the Rev. Ralph Farmer officiating. Mrs. Marianne Phelps was the organist and Darren Brooke sang. Pallbearers were Mark Irwin, Scott Irwin, Tommy Rohner, Bryan Carlisle, Ken Whyte and Jay Blanchfield. Burial was in the Overman cemetery, Atalissa.
Mr. Carlisle died April 4 at the Mercer county hospital in Aledo, Ill., following an extended illness.
The son of Alexander and Ruth Savecool Carlisle, he was born Oct. 7, 1913 in Howard county. He graduated from Atalissa high school in 1931. He married Wilma Hargrave June 9, 1938 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
Mr. Carlisle operated the M and M Implement dealership in Atalissa for several years. He was later employed by the United States Postal Service and was the postmaster at Atalissa.
He was a member of the First Church United in West Liberty. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge Golden Rule Lodge No. 24 A.F. and A.M. in Rochester. He was a 32 Degree Mason and a member of the KAABA Shrine.
Mr. Carlisle is survived by his wife; 2 daughters, Carol Irwin and husband Marvin, Atalissa; and Ruth Rohner and husband Tom, West Liberty; a son, Richard and wife Shirley Carlisle, Mt. Clemens, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Whyte, Davenport; and a brother, Francis Carlisle, Atalissa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Cecil.
Memorials may be made to the Quad City Alzheimer's Association.
