Funeral services for Gertrude A. Kook, 96, Durant, were held Feb. 22, 1997 at St. Mary's Catholic church in Wilton, with Father Ted Lawson officiating. Jeannette Andrews was the organist and Henry Bentley sang. Pallbearers were Bill Einfeldt, Steve and Cindy Young, Jim and Wanda Einfeldt, Mark and Rita Mays, Mike and Mary Ketelsen, Joel and Jeannine Miencke, Chuck Einfeldt, Tim and Mary Kook, Terry and Angie Schmeucker, Paula Kook and Deb Lindsey. Florence Johnson was an honorary pallbearer. Burial was in the Muscatine Memorial Park cemetery.

Mrs. Kook died Feb. 18 at Muscatine General hospital.

The daughter of Henry and Amelia Schlapkohl Springmeier, she was born April 19, 1900 in rural Stockton. She married Leroy B. Kook July 14, 1928 in Buffalo. He died March 8, 1972.

Mrs. Kook was a cook for 19 years with the Durant community schools.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church in Wilton and its Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren.

Mrs. Kook is survived by 3 daughters, Jeannine Kook and Dolores (Mrs. Robert) Einfeldt, Durant; and Lora Lindsey, Atalissa; a sister, Helen Lage, Durant; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, a son, Larry Kook; 4 sisters, Amelia Doran, Adelia Petersen, Florence Angerer and Marie Ehrecke; 2 brothers, Warren and George Springmeier and 3 grandchildren, Terry Kook, Larry Kook, Jr. and Robert Einfeldt, Jr.
