Graveside services for Louise Earhart, 81, West Liberty, were held Jan. 20, 1997 at the Oak Ridge cemetery, with the Rev. Ralph Farmer officiating. Pallbearers were Dan Tamerius, Charlie Rawson, Justin Earhart, Steve Poulsen, Steve Shield and Howard Bjork.

Mrs. Earhart died Jan. 18 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City, following a brief illness.

The daughter of Clair H. and Christina M. Smith Woods, she was born Oct. 19, 1915 in Mechanicsville. She was educated in the West Liberty schools and attended the Mercy School of Nursing. She married Jack Earhart Sept. 12, 1934 in Olathe, Kan.

She and her husband owned and operated Earhart Hardware for many years. She also worked at the West Liberty public library, retiring in 1981.

Mrs. Earhart was a member of the Floriculture Society and the Fortnightly Literary Club.

She is survived by her husband; a son, John and Jan Earhart, Morrison, Ill.; 3 grandchildren, Denise, Washington; Michele, Iowa City; and Justin, Morrison, Ill.; 4 great-grandchildren; and a half-sister, Virginia Crees Eiler, Stanwood.
