Memorial services for John C. Fishburn, 78, Muscatine, will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 11, 1996 at First Presbyterian church in Muscatine, with the Rev. Michael Spanngler officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery.
Mr. Fishburn died Dec. 6 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City, following an auto accident in southern Cedar county.
The son of Jesse J. and Alpha Amelia Wabnitz Fishburn, he was born Nov. 9, 1918 in Muscatine. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1940 and the U of I Law School in 1947. He married Sudan E. Woolridge Jan. 5, 1946 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
He joined the Fishburn and Fishburn law firm in 1947, the law office his father Jesse started in 1911, and his uncle C. H. Fishburn joined in 1915. He also served as the assistant country attorney.
Mr. Fishburn was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian church, having served as a deacon and an elder. He also sang in the church choir.
He was a member of the Iowa Lodge No. 2, AF and AM, the Kiwanis Club, the Iowa Bar Association and the Muscatine Civic Chorale.
Mr. Fishburn is survived by his wife; 2 sons, John Fishburn and wife Lynnette, Murry Hill, N.J. and William Fishburn and wife, Joan, Cedar Rapids; 2 daughters, Mary (Mrs. David) Norman, Socorrow, N.M.; and Alice (Mrs. Michael) Brown, Cedar Rapids; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
