The Clinton Age, Clinton, Iowa, January 25, 1889

Capt. Eaton ferried a man across the river a day or two ago who told him he had crossed on Col. Stewart’s pontoon bridge at Nebraska City and that with only one-half as much ice at the Missouri and there was then in the Mississippi, the draw of the pontoon bridge was nearly demoralized by the ice. The man said Col. Stewart had patched the bridge up with planks but that he was having no easy or pleasant time with the ice. – Muscatine Journal.
