Services Today for Walter LeFebvre Pioneer Businessman

Walter I. LeFebvre, 71, of Mapleton died at his home Tuesday, March 8 following a lingering illness. Mr. LeFebvre was a longtime resident of Mapleton and was in business here for 30 years.

He was a past fire chief and a member of the Monona County Saddle club and had been active in community affairs in the town.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and seven sons. The rosary was recited Wednesday night at the Walter Funeral Chapel. Services will be held Thursday (today) at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic church here, with Rev. A. H. Ocken officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary' s cemetery, under the direction of the Walter Funeral Homes.

Walter I. Lefebvrer was born July 4, 1888, near Mapleton and died Tuesday, March 8, 1960 at his home following a lingering illness.
He was 71 years of age.

Mr. LeFebvre was a former carpenter and contractor and also operated a grocery store in Mapleton for 30 years before his retirement. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic church, a past fire chief and a member of the Monona County Saddle Club. He married Ella Leitzen May 20, 1914.

Survivors include the widow; seven sons, Leonard, Edwin, Vinent, Clifford and Ronald all of Mapleton, Robert of Atlantic, Iowa and Raymond of Charles City, Ia., two daughters, Mrs. Curtis Stricker of Omaha and Mrs. Harold Tierney of Randolph, Nebr., a brother, George of Sioux City, three sisters, Mrs. Alice Quinley of Orchard, Nebr, Mrs. Stella Head of Sioux City and Mrs. Clara Nenbrand of LeMars, Ia., 35 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday morning, March 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. A. H. Ocken officiating.

Pallbearers were: Leo Hillrich, Leo Streck Jr., Walter --, Donald Theobald, Everett McCall and Wayne Seuntjens.

Burial was in St. Mary' s cemetery, under the direction of the Walter Funeral Homes.
