Esther Marian Overman was born on July 5, 1895, a child of Mary Ann Fox and William Wallace Hail, at the farm home near Smithland, Iowa. Her great-grandfather was a pioneer in the Smithland area.

Marian graduated from Smithland High School in 1914, and taught school in that area for several years. She then worked for Cudahy in Sioux City and Pacific in Omaha, before moving to San
Francisco where she met and married Guy Overman, a career service man. They lived for some time in the Phillipine Islands. After Guy retired they moved to Staten Island, New York, then to Virginia, New Orleans, and to Chicago and soon after she became ill and after five weeks of hospitalization, they moved to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Her health continued to decline and in 1975 they came back to Iowa. She entered Maple
Heights Nursing Home at Mapleton where she died on October 5, 1980 after a continuing illness.

She was a member of the Daughters of the Republic, the Order of the Eastern Star and St. John's United Methodist Church at Mapleton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister and two brothers.

She is survived by one brother, K.D. Hall of Refugio, Texas, by two sisters, Mrs. Karl Nagel and Mrs. Wanda Armstrong both of Mapleton, and by five nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Overman willed her body to medical research at the University Hospital at Vermillion, South Dakota.

A memorial service at Maple Heights Nursing Home is being planned for a later date.
