19 April 1982SMITHLAND, Iowa - F. Walter Madsen, 96, of Mapleton, formerly of Smithland, died Sunday in a nursing home in Mapleton.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Hornick United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dale Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Smithland Cemetery under direction of the Willman Funeral Home of Rodney.
Mr. Madsen was born May 22, 1885, in Polstry, Denmark. He came to the United States Sept. 28, 1902.
He married Millie Skow Dec. 12, 1907, at Onawa. They farmed in the Hornick community until 1945 when they retired and moved to Smithland. Mrs. Madsen died Aug. 15, 1967.
He was a member of the Smithland United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Ivan of Hornick and Arnold of Sioux City; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
