Robert “Bob” Deane Kelsey, 72, of Smithland, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024 at Maple Heights Nursing Home, Mapleton, Iowa.

A memorial service will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, April 26, 2024 at the Smithland United Methodist Church with Pastor Karen Handke officiating. A recording of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Bob’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. Thursday, April 25, 2024 at the church with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Robert Deane was born December 28, 1951, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Deane and Jeanette (Newman) Kelsey. He attended Westwood High School and graduated with the class of 1970. Bob attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He worked at various jobs and drove truck for the Garbage company in Mapleton, Iowa.

Bob and Linda (Powell) Eyer were married September 12, 1998 in Smithland, Iowa. To this union one daughter was born, Jenna, who was his pride and joy. The couple later divorced.

He loved golfing, baseball, and all sports, especially all the Minnesota teams. Bob was an avid sports enthusiast and he coached little league for many years.

Bob was a member of the Smithland United Methodist Church, in Smithland, Iowa. He was a past FFA and 4-H member.

Survivors include his mother, Jeanette Kelsey of Mapleton, Iowa; daughter, Jenna (fiancé, Nicholas Ekern) Kelsey of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; grandson, Hudson Dean Ekern of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; sisters, Marilyn Kelsey of Sioux City, Iowa, and Deanna (David) Daniel of Lidderdale, Iowa; brother, Michael (Lori) Kelsey of Lake City, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Deane Kelsey; aunt and uncle, Jo and Saul Mitchell; and uncle, Gene Kelsey.
