Ed. Stoops, an old citizen of Knoxville before his removal to Des Moines, died at his home in the latter city Monday of this week, aged nearly 70 years.
He was the son of William Stoops and his wife, Mary Sutton Stoops. People who lived in Knoxville during and after the Civil war knew the family well. The elder Stoops was a stone-mason, and the son followed that trade many years. Many years ago – perhaps 20 or 25 years – Ed. lost his sight and removed to Des Moines, which remained his home.
He leaves to mourn his loss four daughters – Mrs Ralph Shoemaker, of Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Merritt Mock and Mrs. Margaret Swislo, of Des Moines; Mrs. Carol Sills, of Ames; his twin sisters, Mrs. C. F. Miller and Mrs. Charles Kennedy, both of Knoxville; four grandchildren – Barbara Ann Webster, of Dallas, Texas; John, Harold and Darlene Sills, of Ames, Iowa.
Funeral services and burial were in Des Moines yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon. Several of the Knoxville relatives were in attendance.

Ed Stoops Dies
Ed Stoops, who formerly lived here, died at Des Moines Monday evening, after an illness of about a month duration. He was a brother of Mrs. C. F. Miller and Mrs. Charles Kennedy, and was 64 years old.
Funeral services were held in Des Moines Wednesday afternoon. Several local people were present.
