Mary Alice Richards was born March 29, 1861, in Delaware county, Indiana, and died at her home in Osceola, Nebraska, March 11, 1893, aged 31 years, 11 months and 12 days. She was a daughter of James S. and Catharine A. Sanders. When quite young she came with her parents to Iowa, settling near Bussey, where she continued to reside until her marriage to William F. Richards, July 3, 1880. Soon after the marriage she removed to Nebraska. In the winter of 1879 at a protracted meeting held in the old Zion church, near Bussey, by Rev. J. H. Hard, she was converted and united with the M. E. church, remaining a faithful and devoted servant of God the remainder of her life. Her last illness extended over a year, and although a great sufferer, bore all patiently, often expressing her willingness to go at the Master's call. Saturday morning, March 11, at 6:30 after a severe struggle with the last enemy, the lamp of life went out, and her spirit took its flight to the realm of the ghost. She leaves a husband, father, brother and sister, besides a large circle of friends to mourn The remains were brought to Bussey, on Tuesday, March 11, where the funeral services were hold in the M. E. church conducted by the Rev. W. A. Jackson, after which the burial took place at the Zion cemetery. "I know that my Redeemer liveth." The house was filled at the funeral services, many being friends of her childhood days.
