Mary Bouma, 76, of rural Fremont, died Friday, July 27, at her home. Her funeral service is 2 p.m. today, July 30, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Gary McDonough and the Rev. Forrest Durham officiating. Burial: Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Memorials: Mahaska Hospice.
Mary Bouma was born Sept. 26, 1924, in Oskaloosa to Jack and Mildred Ryan Peters in Oskaloosa. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1942. She married Sjoerd Bouma on Feb. 21, 1945, at First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. She was a member of the Cedar United Methodist Church, and was past president of United Methodist Women.
She is survived by her husband, Sjoerd Bouma of rural Fremont; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Jim Bouma of Fremont, and John and Wanda Bouma of Ottumwa; a sister, Janet Peters of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
