Bertie Ethel Morley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Morley, was born November 22, 1877, near Iowa City, Iowa. She departed this life March 3, 1916, at 6 a.m. at her home in Lucas, Iowa, after a brief illness, at the age of 39 years, 3 months and 10 days. All was done that loving hands could do but to no avail.

Bertie Ethel Morley was united in marriage with Joshua E. Hicks at Newbern, Iowa, June 18, 1902. To this union were born three children, Carmen Mae, James Elton Robert and Miles D. Hicks, aged respectiveley 13, 11 and 8 years.

Mrs. Hicks joined the Christian church at Lacona, Iowa, about sixteen years ago. She was a kind, loving wife and mother.

She leaves to mourn her death father, stepmother, half brother, husband, three children and a host of friends.

A short funeral service was held at the home Sunday at 1 p.m. after which the remains were taken to Pleasantville, Iowa, and interment made in the Pleasantville cemetary. Services were held by Rev. Wyrauch of the M. E. church.
