William Lawson died Thursday morning about three o'clock, at his residence, east of Hedrick, aged 84 years, eight months and 27 days. The funeral was held Friday at the residence, conducted by Rev. Orr Campbell, and the interment was in the Rayburn cemetery, east of town.

William Lawson was born March 7, 1825, in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania. He came to Iowa in 1846, and in 1847 settled in Steady Run township, on the farm which he has continued to own and occupy until his death. In 1866 he was married to Miss Ellen McMillan, who is left to mourn his loss. To them were born four children, one of whom, Jennie, died at the age of 11 years. The others are Hugh S. Lawson, Mary Frances Bottorff and John Lawson.

Mr. Lawson was one of the hardy pioneers to which the state of Iowa owes much of its development.

He was a kind husband and father, a good neighbor, generous to a fault, and would have divided his last crust with needy humanity. His kind and hearty greeting will be sorely missed by his hosts of friends and sorrowing neighbors.
