Funeral services for Percie I. Lyon, 98, Olin, were held Dec. 6, 1996 at Hayden Funeral Home in Olin. Pallbearers were Blair, Bryce and Brett Taylor, Mark Lyon, Darwin Darrow and Ross Henderson. Burial was in the Olin cemetery.

Mrs. Lyon died Dec. 4, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Monticello, following a long illness.

The daughter of William and Ada Hammond Simmons, she was born Nov. 24, 1989 near Olin. She attended the Mud Center country school, south of Olin. She worked on the family farm doing all of the horse chores and harnessing. She also helped with the house and field work.

She married Charles Lyon Jan. 14, 1920 in Marion. The couple began their married lives near Olin. She drove a team of horses on the school bus route for many years and she later worked at Mercy hospital in Anamosa.

Mrs. Lyon also cleaned several homes, had a huge garden and raised 6 children. The couple farmed from 1940 to 1948 in the Newport and Anamosa areas. In 1949 they moved to Cedar Rapids and worked as custodians for Iowa Mutual Insurance until retiring in 1965 and moved to Olin.

Mr. Lyon died in 1987 and Percie Lyon had been a resident of the Monticello home since 1986.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Sara Lee (Mrs. Raymond) Garside, Wyoming; and Charlene (Mrs. Clyde) Taylor, Olin; 2 sons, William "Dale" Lyon, Cabot, Ark.; and Donald (Marilyn) Lyon, Stanwood; 19 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Wilbur Simmons, Scotch Grove; and a sister, Alta Darrow, Martelle. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, a son, 2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 4 brothers and 5 sisters.
