OXFORD JUNCTION - Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. for Edward Shimanek,82, of Oxford Junction. Services were at Hayden's Funeral home with the Rev. Rodney Turner officiating. Mrs. Otto Koranda and Mrs. Hans Ahrendsen were vocalists.

Mr. Shimanek died Friday, Oct. 29, at his home in Oxford Junction. He was born March 22, 1889, at Oxford Junction, the son of Charles and Frances Tomek Shimanek. He married Christina Zak at Maquoketa March 1, 1927. They farmed in the Monmouth area before moving to a farm near Oxford Junction. They retired to Oxford Junction several years ago; he also worked as a carpenter.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Louis, Cedar Rapids; a sister, Helen Elsner, California and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, five brothers and two sisters.

Burial was at Mayflower cemetery, Oxford Junction. Pallbearers were Francis Shimanek, Charles Shimanek, Robert Yanda, James Kostichek and Henry Benischek.
