7 October 1971 - The Anamosa Eureka

Frank J. Michel, 76, a resident of Anamosa since 1950, died at the Veterans hospital in Iowa City Monday morning, Oct. 4 after an illness of several weeks.

Frank Joseph Michel was born Jan. 10, 1895 in Johnson county, the son of Frank and Emma Geary Michel. He received his education in the Johnson county schools and from 1918 until 1919 he served in the army of the United States.

He was married to Mildred Files at Iowa City and they made their home there until moving to Anamosa in 1950 where he was in the implement business until his retirement.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as their commander as well as the commander of the American Legion and World War I Veterans. He also served as VFW post service officer.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred; a son, Lawrence Michel of Oak Forest, Ill.; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Fred Michel, Iowa City, and William Michel, Des Moines, and a sister, Mrs. Maggie Cox, Mobile, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and a brother.

Funeral services were held at Goettsch Funeral home Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1971 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Boyd Bonebrake officiating. Interment was in Cedar Memorial cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Casket bearers were Frank Brady, Russell Ellison, Harold Ford, Lester Houstman, Harry Gorius and William Rosencrans.
