Injuries From Accident Fatal

Mrs. Ethel G. CUMMING (sic), well known Fairfield woman who has served the county for a number of years as clerk in various offices, passed away unexpectedly about 1 a.m. today at the Jefferson county hospital.

Her death came as a result of injuries she received in an automobile accident near Kirkwood, Ill., on July 10.

Mrs. CUMMINGS was on her way to Geneva, Ill., to visit her sister when her car missed a sharp curve, crossed a ditch and went through a fence.

She suffered general cuts and bruises and back injuries, but at that time her condition was not considered serious. She was transferred to the hospital here on July 13 where she had been a patient since.

Mrs. CUMMINGS was named deputy county auditor in 1939. Previous to that time she had worked part-time in the office. She remained deputy county auditor until 1948 at which time she resigned.

In May, 1950, she returned to the county court house as a clerk in the treasurer's office. She was employed there at the time she was injured.

Mrs. Ethel G. CUMMINGS, 72, was born in Henry county, Ill., the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. JULIAN. She had been a resident of Fairfield for the past 50 years.

She was united in marriage to Charlie CUMMINGS in 1911 at Fairfield. He passed away in 1918.

Mrs. CUMMINGS is survived by two sisters: Mrs. Bertha ROSS and Mrs. Nellie SYMONDS, both of Geneva, Ill.

She was a member of the Methodist church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Order of Eastern Star and the B.P.W.

Last rites will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Weston Behner funeral home with Dr. L. L. Weis in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
