Carl R. James, 80, of Searsboro, died peacefully on Friday, July 15, 2022, at Grinnell Healthcare Center. There will be a service at a later date. Memorials for Carl can be made out in his name and sent in care of Cox-Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, PO Box 163, Grinnell, IA 50112.
Carl was born on the family farm near Lynnville on Feb. 5, 1942, to Lloyd and Blanche “Roten” James. He graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School in 1960. Sept. 14, 1962, Carl was united in marriage to Mary Kathleen Chedester. He was a member of the Lynnville and Searsboro Friends Church. Carl worked at Swift and Lynnville Truck Wash when farming was slow. He loved being a farmer, and it showed. He was a 4-H leader for 10 years, attending every county fair and state fair for his children and grandchildren. Carl’s family meant the world to him, his love for them was endless.
Carl will be remembered by his wife Kathy of Searsboro; sons Craig (Sheri) James and Curtis (Stacey) James; grandchildren Caleb, Corbin, Carsten, Brianna, Lysandra (Austin), Rylan (Shaleah), and Cameyon; brother Roy (Dianne) James; and brother-in-law Claire (Brenda) Chedester.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Rex James; and in-laws Charles and Imogene Chedester.
