A Pioneer – Our good old Quaker friend, Joab Ballard, of Kellogg Tp., is one of the pioneers of Jasper county, and one who is held in high esteem by all his neighbors. He was born in Guilford County, North Caroline, Dec. 1st, 1808, and is now in his 82d year. At the age of 22, he was married in Ohio, and in the year 1853 came to Iowa, settling in Jasper County, where he and his aged companion of fifty-seven years have resided ever since. Their home was the scene of a most pleasant surprise, last Friday, by the unexpected return of their son Felix, from Montana, after an absence of sixteen years.
