Doris Ann Kurth was born January 30, 1933, in rural Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Willis and Rose Lohrer. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1950. On March 28, 1951, she was united in marriage to William Kurth at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, in Marengo. Of this union they had three children, David, Diane and Jimmie. Doris worked at Amana Refrigeration for 6 years and as a school cook for 27 years. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, St. Patrick’s Altar and Rosary, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Doris enjoyed playing cards, tending to her garden and most of all, spending time with her family. Doris passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo, at the age of 93 years.
She is survived by her two children, David (Judy) Kurth of West Des Moines and Diane (John) Kurth Boyles, of Fairfield; nine grandchildren, Jason (Lindsay) Kurth, Joseph (Jada) Kurth, Sarah (David) Jensen, James (Marianne) Kurth, Mark Boyles, Deborah (Steven) Welter, Elisabeth (Nick) Parilo, John Boyles, and Jennifer (Joe) Patterson; and 21 great-grandchildren with one on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, a son Jimmie in infancy and her sister, Iona Dittmer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo. Burial will be in the St. Patrick’s St. Paul’s Cemetery in Watkins. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. A memorial fund has been established for St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or American Legion Post #76.
