Services for Bob Heusing, 85, formerly of Cedar Rapids, will be held on what would have been his 86th birthday, Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Knoxville. Family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. Following the service, a luncheon will be held at the funeral home for a time of continued visiting and fellowship.

Memorials may be made in care of Bob's family and will be designated to his favorite charities.

Robert Lee Heusing was born on July 9, 1940, in Harvey, Illinois, to Monroe and Velma Heusing. He was the middle of three children and grew up in Grant Park, Illinois, graduating from Grant Park High School with the Class of 1958.

On December 23, 1961, Bob married the first and only love of his life, Caryl Styck, in Aroma Park, Illinois. Together they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on love, faithfulness, and family. Their greatest joy was raising their four children and watching their family grow to include grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bob was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and the steady foundation his family could always count on.

As a young man, Bob became a barber, though he often said that the long-haired hippies of the 1970s put him out of business. Looking back, he would say it was a blessing in disguise because it led him to a career with the United States Postal Service, where he worked as a mail carrier for 20 years. After retiring from the Postal Service, Bob stayed busy with several different jobs, but the one he loved most was driving a school bus. He spent 10 years with the Cedar Rapids Community School District and always considered being a bus driver his favorite job.

The greatest adventure of his life was moving his family to NW Montana. It was there where he met Jesus and his Christian faith walk began. It was a special time of adventuring and growing as an individual and as a family.

Bob had an endless curiosity and loved learning new things. He enjoyed taking community college classes on everything from wood carving and motorcycle repair to drawing, furniture repair, and countless other subjects. He was a true hobbyist who found joy in creating, fixing, and collecting. Thrifting was one of his favorite pastimes, and over the years he developed a special passion for restoring vintage bicycles, giving new life to old treasures.

He also loved fishing, old cars, and playing games. More than the hobbies themselves, Bob loved sharing them with his family. Many treasured memories were made fishing together, attending car shows, or simply sitting around a table playing games. He delighted in spending time with each of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, making every one of them feel special and loved.

Bob passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, surrounded by the family he cherished so deeply. They are grateful for the example he set through his kindness, faithfulness, and unwavering love for his family.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Caryl; his children, John (Lauralee) Heusing of Amana, Kristine (Todd) Yocum of Knoxville, Amy (Jay) Bronkhorst of Fridley, Minnesota, and Jason Heusing of Knoxville; his grandchildren: Jake (Cora) Heusing, Cameron (Sami) Eubanks, Spencer Eubanks, Bethany (Bryan) Yocum, Paige (Steven) Watson, Shannon (Scott) Molloy, Lily (Smith) Yocum, Mia Yocum, Jayson (Jamie) Bronkhorst, Hunter Bronkhorst, Chase (Lauren) Bronkhorst, Payton (Beatta) Bronkhorst, Makya Bronkhorst, Macy Bronkhorst, and Drew Bower; and 10 great grandchildren; his siblings, Richard Heusing and Virginia Johnson; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends. Though their hearts are heavy, they are grateful to know he is at peace in the presence of Jesus.
