Ruth Marie (Schumacher) Hahn, 97, passed from this earth to her heavenly home on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

Ruth was born on December 4, 1928, outside of East Amana, Iowa, in the same house where her father was born. She was the daughter of Otto and Emma (Kimm) Schumacher. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1947. Ruth was a life long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed.

On October 7, 1950, Ruth was united in marriage to Conrad “Connie” Hahn, by Rev. Spitz in her parent’s rural home. Together they raised their family in the big white house just southeast of Marengo. It became a hub for countless family gatherings continuing until Ruth moved to Ridgeview Assisted Living in Cedar Rapids in 2022.

Ruth worked as a bookkeeper for Marengo Motor, Leo Kelly Company and Pioneer Seed. St. John’s Lutheran involvement included teaching Sunday school, altar guild, ladies aid and quilting. She and Connie enjoyed all their children’s and grandchildren’s activities and continued to follow Iowa Valley teams long after their own children were grown. Ruth cherished each phone call and visit from her grandchildren. The Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes helped fill many hours.

Ruth is survived by her children Ned Hahn of Anchorage, Alaska, Joni (Leon) Heitman of Cedar Rapids and Marty (Tara) Hahn of New Prague, Minnesota; grandchildren Annette (Darrin) Fugitt, Danielle (Brian) Bowman, Christine (Zach) Homan, Kent (Brooke) Heitman, Abby Heitman, Bridger (Haylee) Hahn and Karly (Ben) Hahn Rajadurai; twelve great grandchildren; sister-in-law Beverly Roggentien; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents; husband in August of 2016; and all of her brothers and sisters.

The family wishes to thank the Ridgeview staff that became like a second family to Ruth, Lisa Horner PA and Suncrest Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 am on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo. Burial will follow in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at St. John Lutheran Church in Marengo. Memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice in Ruth’s honor. Powell Funeral Home in Marengo is caring for Ruth and her family. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
