Cresco Plain Dealer Nov. 3, 1916 P-8 C-5

Lydia Schuman, born Dempewolf, was born in Albion twp., Howard county, Iowa, Sept. 27, 1887, and peacefully passed away in the hospital in Cresco, Iowa, Oct. 27, aged 29 years, 1 month and 6 days.
Her early life was spent in Albion and Howard Center townships, later coming to Cresco where she graduated from the Cresco high school in June, 1906. For several years she was a successful teacher in our public schools.
On March 12, 1912, she was united in marriage with Edward Schuman, with whom she shared the joys and sorrows of life as they come to us, being a devoted wife and mother. Two children came to gladden the home, Donald aged 3½
years and Faithe aged 1½ years.
While living in Cresco she united with the M. E. church of that place, but after her marriage she attended the Evangelical church near where she was born and where she was baptized and about one year ago she united with the same. She was earnest and conscientious in her Christian duties and enjoyed the divine services and fellowship and prayers of the Christian people. She was for several years past the secretary of the W. M. S. which office she acceptably filled.
She was a faithful and affectionate wife, a kind loving mother, a loyal member of the church, and a good neighbor.
She leaves a grief stricken husband, two children, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Dempewolf of Cresco, three brothers, two sisters and a host of other relatives and friends. She has gone to her eternal reward but the influence of her life remains with us.
The funeral services were held on Sunday, 2 p. m., in the Florenceville Evangelical church, the pastor conducting the same.
That she had the respect of the people was shown by the large attendance. Although the roads were bad the church was far too small to accommodate the people and the floral offerings were beautiful.
We sorrow but not as those that have no hope.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows her name spelled Schumann and that she is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
