Richard A. Curtis, 68, of Lime Springs, IA, died on Monday, June 7, 2021 at his home.

Richard Alan Curtis was born May 23, 1953 to William and Ancille (Fordham) Curtis. He joined the United States Navy and served his country from 1971-1974 in Vietnam and on the U. S.S Okinawa. On May 17, 1974, Richard was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Janet Tointon, in Rochester, MN. Together they had 3 children; Curt, Candy, and Chad. Richard’s passions were motorcycles, racing, and his grandkids. He was the 1983 National Amateur Hillclimb champion and enjoyed hare scramble races and racing motocross in his younger days. Richard was a mechanic at several businesses in and around Rochester where he worked on cars and dirt bikes for 30 years. He was a member of the Millville American Legion for 21 years.

Richard is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janet, children Curt (Natasha) Curtis of Lime Springs, Candy (special friend Brent Swygman) Niewoehner of Lime Springs, and Chad (Sara) Curtis of Sherburn, MN, grandchildren Emily Bjugan-Hanson, Carlynn Curtis, Cora Curtis, Jessica Curtis, Ross, Rose, and Chase Niewoehner, Morgan, Luke, and Evelyn Curtis, great-grandson Zakai, siblings Mike (Rami) Curtis of Rochester, MN, James Curtis of Rochester, Jay Curtis of Red Wing, MN, John Curtis of Rochester, Lisa (Loell) Hageman of Calmar, IA, Cindy Figy of Rochester, Randy (Maron) Curtis of Austin, MN, Sally Curtis of Omaha, NE, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gary Curtis.

The family would like to thank Howard County Hospice, the Mason City Hospital, and the Decorah VA Clinic for taking such wonderful care of Richard.

Burial services for Richard will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, MN. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Servicemen’s Club in Preston.
