Thu, Jul 04, 1872 · Page 4The monument for the grave of good old Dr. Elliott, has arrived at Mt. Pleasant, and been put in place. The Journal says it is of red granite, brought from Aberdeen, Scotland. It is 14 1/2 feet high and composed of two bases, a die, cap and spire, upon one side the following inscription:
Charles Elliott:
Born at Ardora, Ireland, 1782.
Died at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, 1866.
The other side bears the inscription to his deceased daughter, Miss Fannie Elliott Vernon. The monument was erected by the family.
