1,000 Attend Dog Races At Wellsburg Sunday

Greyhound Owned by Harry Brown Wins in Finals

Dog races at Wellsburg Sunday afternoon attracted an attendance of 1,000. A greyhound owned by Harry Brown from Liscomb won in the finals and was awarded first prize. The hound owned by Oda Tjaden from Wellsburg took second.

There were twenty-four dogs entered in the race. Dogs were entered from various places throughout central Iowa. There were twenty different events which kept the interest of the large gallery of spectators at a high pitch during most of the afternoon.

The racing event took place at the Miller farm a mile east and a mile north of Wellsburg. There were 284 cars parked on the farm and on the highway adjoining the Miller farm. The gate receipts amounted to $227. It was the first event of its kind held in Grundy county.
