George A. Moore

Jan. 11, 1925, I was eighty-five years old. My wife, Elizabeth Sheller Moore, is eighty years old today, February 21, 1925. We were both born in Franklin county, Pennsylvania. When I was nearly eight years old, the fall of 1847, my folks came west. There were two covered wagons and a spring rig, like we call a surrey, in our crowd. We settled in Carroll county, Illinois. My wife's folks had come to Illinois before this.

Nov. 6, 1864, we were married. The following verse was made up at that time:
"In eighteen hundred and sixty-four,
She changed her name from Sheller to Moore."

Last fall, Nov. 6, 1924, marked our 60th wedding anniversary.

In the spring of 1866, my wife's parents, Daniel and Catharine Strickler Sheller and children, Mary and her husband, W. F. Miller, my wife and myself, and Henry Sheller, the youngest, came to Grundy county, Iowa. We settled in Melrose township, about a mile and a half from what is now known as Ivester.

We have lived in Melrose ever since, with the exception of last winter and this. We live in Eldora during the winter and go back to our home in Grundy county for the summer.
