Thielen Sharon Kay 1942-2019

Sharon Kay Thielen, 77, of Latimer, Iowa, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2019, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. She was born on July 16, 1942, in Hampton, to Hance Casper and Mardella (Dreyer) Grandt.
Sharon graduated from Chapin High School and from Hamilton Business College in Mason City. She was united in marriage to Gayhart LeRoy Thielen on September 23, 1961, at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Hampton.
Sharon was a bookkeeper for Farmer's Hybrid, Krause-Gentle, and Mercy Hospital, co-owned G & S Grocery, and was also a bookkeeper for ABCM and Midwest Meter.
She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Hampton, being a former treasurer for many years as well as being a member of the St. John's WELCA. Sharon volunteered for the Franklin County Historical Society.
She loved to attend her children and grandchildren's activities as they went through school. Sharon was an avid newspaper and magazine reader and would always donate them to the local nursing homes after she was done reading them. She followed the Iowa Hawkeyes and watched a lot of sports on TV. Along with several other ladies, Sharon started the Latimer Star. She and Gayhart enjoyed visiting Redwing every year with their friends. Sharon enjoyed antiquing, loved to bake, make fried chicken and made awesome spaghetti and meatballs, which was always requested by Lene every time she visited. She was always busy doing something and loved to visit with people.
Sharon is survived by her daughter Annette (Bruce) Harris of Geneva, son Kurt (Roxann) Thielen of Latimer, daughter Shereen (Dave) Solseth of Altoona, foreign exchange daughter Lene Steendahl (Kenneth Palm), granddaughter Laura (Jeremy) Monaghan of Mason City, granddaughter Amanda (Ben) Wobschall of Mitchellville, granddaughter Melissa (John) Deaton of Des Moines, granddaughter Tricia Thielen (Nate Parham) of Cedar Rapids, granddaughter Stephanie Thielen of Cedar Rapids, granddaughter Lauren Solseth of Altoona, grandson Dustin Solseth of Altoona, granddaughter Eva Solseth of Altoona, Denmark granddaughter Naia Steendahl, great-grandchildren Charlotte and Grandt Wobschall and Calan and Eleri Monaghan, aunts Karen Omari and Arlene Christman, nephew Donald Grandt, niece Karen Meyer, along with several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Casper and Mardella, husband Gayhart, brother Kenneth "Bud" Grandt, sister Diane Grandt and uncle Kenny Dreyer.
