Bruce Carl Snyder, 92, passed away December 1, 2011, on the family farm where he was born and lived all his life. His family farm had been designated a Heritage Farm having been in his family for over 150 years. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Waukee Christian Church followed by burial at Waukee Cemetery in Waukee.

Bruce was born on August 5, 1919, to J.A. and Bertha (Dowler) Snyder. He attended Waukee School and was honored with a diploma from Waukee High School in 2009. Bruce married Dorothy Irene Burger November 18, 1939. After serving overseas in the Army Air Corp during World War II, Bruce and Dorothy farmed and built the Timberline Ranch Campground near Waukee, where they raised two children, Larry and Sharon. Bruce also drove a school bus for many years and in 1958 joined with a few men to start the Zoning Board for Dallas County. He was an active member of the Maple Grove Methodist Church and Masons for most of his life. After his wife's passing, Bruce married Mary Kay Burger and transferred to St. Boniface Catholic Church and was a member of Knights of Columbus.

Those left behind to cherish Bruce's memory include: his son, Larry (Patricia) of Waukee; his daughter, Sharon Hurst (Doug Smitley) of Waukee; his grandchildren, Troy (Janet) Snyder, Travis (Shawn) Snyder, and Lacey Snyder; his great-grandchildren, Riata and Colton; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; his second wife, Kay; his brothers, Samuel and Ray; his sisters, Doris and Pauline.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Waukee Christian Church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family or to Iowa Health Hospice Home Care.

The family would like to thank the many kind staff of Home Instead, Veterans Affairs Home Health, Iowa Health Hospice, Dr. Parkins, and Dr. Donahue whose dedication allowed Bruce to stay in his home.
