Kenneth H. Nemitz 1934- 2003

Kenneth Herbert Nemitz was born December 28, 1933, the son of August and Edna Neddermeyer Nemitz. He died Monday, July 14, 2003 on the family farm, near Charter Oak, Iowa at the age of sixty-eight.

Kenneth was born on the family farm, Hanover Township near Charter Oak. He was baptized in Christ, January 20, 1935, by Rev. H.M. Zagel, also on the family farm. He received his early education at St. Paul's Lutheran School, a rural school near his home and St. John's Lutheran School in Charter Oak.
He was confirmed on April 2, 1950, at St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak by Rev. Walter Schroeder. Kenneth continued his education at the Charter Oak High School, graduating with the class of 1954. After completing his education he worked for the Charter Oak Implement and area farmers.

On June 26, 1955, Kenneth was united in marriage to Arlene Wellendorf at the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig, Iowa by Rev. Baumgartner. The couple made their home on the family farm in Hanover Township and were blessed with the birth of three children, Natalie, Debra and Pamela.

Kenneth was a devoted life long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he held various church offices, including Sunday School Supt.intendent, Elder, Trustee and presently President of St. Paul Congregation. He was also serving as Hanover Township Clerk. He was a very loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and brother who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially on the holidays, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas and displaying his lighted Christmas array. He was an avid farmer who also enjoyed nature, keeping the squirrels and the birds well fed. Kenneth loved woodworking, making things for his family and in later years made a Christmas gift for each of the Sunday School children at St. Paul. He enjoyed socializing with family and friends over coffee at the local coffee shop. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing cards with his friends, attending antique auctions and collecting occupied Japan pieces. Kenneth was known for his great sense of humor.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, August and Edna Nemitz; his father-in-law, Harvey Wellendorf; his grandparents, Fred and Emma Nemitz and Marvin and Augusta Neddermeyer; also one nephew, Rodney Nemitz.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Charter Oak; three daughters, Natalie Bohlmann and her husband, Dean of Charter Oak; Debra Sexton and her husband, Mick of Danbury; Pamela Claussen and her husband, Spencer of Schaller; five grandchildren, Brett and Derek Bohlmann, Brandi Sexton, Morgan and Hunter Claussen; his mother-in-law, Ruth Wellendorf of Schleswig; two brothers, Milfred Nemitz and his wife, Jeanette of Denison; August Nemitz Jr. of St. Joseph, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Delores Nemitz of Kiron; two brothers-in-law, Dale Wellendorf and his wife, Sharon of Ida Grove; Brian Wellendorf and his wife, Tina of Ida Grove; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 17, 2003 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Eugene Ernst officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Hanover Township. Shirley Stull provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Eldon Hardekopf singing Nearer, My God, to Thee and What a Friend We Have in Jesus and congregational hymns Just as I Am, Without One Plea and Abide with Me, Fast Falls the Eventide. Honorary pallbearers were: Verdell Henningsen, Leonard Keating Jr., Hunter Claussen, Morgan Claussen, Edgar Kuhlmann, Gailen Meseck, Richard Spiegel, Richard Butler, Martin Spiegel, Mark Spiegel, Ken Lally and Jim Schultz. Pallbearers were: Derek Bohlmann, Shane Wellendorf, Brett Bohlmann, Brandi Sexton, Scott Nemitz and Ryan Nemitz.
