Funeral services for Alice H. Kahler, 89, Wheatland, were held Oct. 24, 1997 at the Runge Mortuary and Crematory in Davenport, with the Rev. Keith Speaks officiating. Ralph DeReus sang and pallbearers were Kent Bachus, Gary Klahn, Rick Fitzgerald, and Jeff, Randy and Joni Hennings. Burial was in the Davenport Memorial Park cemetery.

Mrs. Kahler died Oct. 21 at the DeWitt Community hospital.

The daughter of Albert and Emma Soenke Illian, she was born April 21, 1908 in Scott county. She married Roy H. Kahler on Jan. 16, 1932 in Davenport. He died on June 14, 1994.

The couple farmed in the Stockton-Durant area until retiring in 1973.

Mrs. Kahler was a member of Zion Lutheran church in Wilton and the Clinton County Farm Bureau.

She enjoyed gardening and her family.

Mrs. Kahler is survived by 2 daughters, Phyllis Bachus, Wheatland; and Karen Hennings, Bennett; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Elnora McAllister, Muscatine; Leona Engelbrecht, Eldridge; and Albertra Bernick, Walcott.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Wayne Kahler; 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
