Funeral services for Emil G. Smith, 90, Wheatland, were held July 24, 1997 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Wheatland with the Rev. William Kanne officiating. Sandra Horman was the organist and Rita Hart sang. Pallbearers were Donald, Dean, Roland and Leslie Schneider, Lloyd Hamdorf and Harlan Pruess. Burial was in the Pine Hill cemetery in Wheatland.

Mr. Smith died July 21 at the Mechanicsville Care Center, following a short illness.

The son of William and Caroline Schlueter Smith, he was born Aug. 7, 1906 in rural Clarence. He married Marie Schneider on Dec. 10, 1934 in Wheatland.

Mr. Smith worked for the Chicago and North Western Railroad for over 30 years.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Wheatland. He was an avid trapper for many years. He loved music and gardening. He was a member of R.S.V.P. in Wheatland.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife; a daughter, Donna and husband Delmar Spickermann, New Liberty; a son, Don and wife Shiela, Crawfordsville; 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence; a sister, Luella Pruess; and an infant sister, Henrietta.
