Funeral services for Verona L. Schnede, 83, Wheatland, were held May 9, 1997 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Wheatland, with the Rev. William Kanne officiating. Sandra Horman was the organist and Pastor Tim Carlson sang. Pallbearers were Jay, Joel, Monty, Jamie and Century Schnede; Kyle and Jeff Hoker; and Keith and Nicholas Dexter. Burial was in the Pine Hill cemetery, Wheatland.

Mrs. Schnede died May 6 at Wheatland Manor Nursing Home, following a long illness.

The daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Schulz Klahn, she was born Dec. 20, 1913 in Scott county. She married Irwin Hoker Aug. 19, 1937 in Davenport. He died in 1945. She married Virgil Schnede Aug. 20, 1951 in Davenport. He died in December 1996.

Mrs. Schnede was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Sheryl (Mrs. Craig) Dexter, Calamus; 4 sons, Paul Hoker, Dixon; Gary Hoker, Davenport; Jan Schnede, Calamus; and Jon Schnede, Remer, Minn; 3 sisters, Evalene Krebs, Durant; Ruby Petersen, Calamus; and Arlene Voelkers, Durant; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both husbands and a son, Danny.

Memorials may be made to the Wheatland Manor Nursing Home or Alzheimer's Research.
