CATTLE THIEVES
~
THEY SUCCEEDED IN GETTING
AWAY WITH $4,000 WORTH
OF STOCK
~
Spencer, Feb. 5 – Perhaps the biggest and boldest thief of cattle that ever occurred in Iowa was discovered Sunday. Seventy-eight head of cattle, valued at $4,000, and owned by M. M. Peese, of Spencer, were stolen from near here Saturday night. The thief was discovered by Peese Saturday afternoon, when he went to feed them. Telegrams have been sent to all the principal stock yards, but no trace has yet been found. It is believed, however, that they stock will be discovered before they reach the butchers hand, though the herd may be divided up and secreted off or placed with other herds and identification made very difficult.
