Daniel Lee Jones, 49, of Park Rapids, Minn., died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids.

Services were held on Saturday, April 6, 2002, at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids. Interment was at the Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids. Casket bearers were Cleo Williams, Jamis Paulson, Jim Williamette and Satch Wilchester. Honorary casket bearers will be Dan’s Grandchildren: Laine Jensen-Jones, Landen Pike-Jones, Taylor Jones, Paige Huewe, Mackenzie Huewe and Garrett Milks.

Dan was born on December 22, 1952, in Cherokee to Herb and Elizabeth (Lyman) Jones. He attended elementary school in Cherokee. In 1965, Dan moved with his family to Park Rapids where he attended public school and grew into manhood. On September 7, 1972, Dan was married to Lynette Williamette in Casper, Wyo. This union was blessed with two children: Chris and Jamie. The young couple made their home throughout the United States and Greece as Dan worked as an oil rig administrator and traveled where work required.

In 1982, Dan married Susan Beckerleg. This union was blessed with three children: Samantha, Nikki, and Alex. In 1991, Dan moved back to Cherokee where he continued working for the oil companies and also owned and operated MD Transport Company. In November of 2000, Dan began experiencing health problems which caused him to become disabled.

Dan enjoyed motorcycling and was especially proud of his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He loved both boating and waterskiing. He was an avid scuba diver. He was a former member of the Akeley Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Water Search and Rescue Team for the surround area.

He is survived by three daughters: Chris (Scott) Jones-Burlingame of Park Rapids, Minn., Samantha (David) Milks of Ft. Carson, Colo., Nikki Jones of Akeley, Minn.; two sons: Jamie (Cindy) Jones of Park Rapids, and Alex Jones of Akeley; six grandchildren; one brother, Trapper (Julie) Rudisill of Cherokee; his father, Herb Jones of Casper, Wyo.; as well as many nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Johnson; one brother, Charlie Jones; his maternal grandparents, Emmette and Bonnie Lyman and his paternal grandparents, Mary and Waldo Jones; and his niece, Haley Rudisill.
