In Memoria
Helen A. Cummings was born in Crawford County, Ohio, March 14, 1835. Early in life she moved with her parents to Carroll County, Ill., which place was her home, with the exception of a few years passed in Minnesota, until 1883, when she came to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. H. M. Ferrin, in Tilden Township. She faithfully and nobly filled her mission as wife, mother and friend for enemies she had none. She brought sunshine in homes blessed with her presence. We shall miss her but know full well that in life she was and in death she is with God. She met the change often called death as calmly and peacefully as she had faced the problems of life.
The funeral services were held at the home of her granddaughter in Cherokee. Her children, several grandchildren and numerous friends were present to pay the late tribute of respect and place flowers on her casket. Rev. Manley B. Townsend, Unitarian minister, of Sioux City, spoke words of comfort regarding the broader life upon which the true character builders enter as they pass into the unseen.
