Obituary – Mrs. Hilda Lund
Hilda Sophia Carlson was born June 17, 1856, at Morlunda, Smaland, Sweden. At the age of 15 she was confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran Church. When a young woman she came to America to Woodhall, Ill., later to be followed by her father and brothers, her mother having died in Sweden.
On February 1, 1881 she was united in marriage to Nels P. Lund at Galesburg, Ill., and one daughter, Lillie was born to them. Mr. and Mrs. Lund retired from active work to North Henderson, Ill., but moved to Pomeroy in 1917 because their daughter who had married Frank Peterson, was living on a farm near here. After the death of Mrs. Peterson September 24, 1920, Mr. and Mrs. Lund adopted their granddaughter, Hilda Marie Peterson, then 6 years of age, and she has cared for her grandmother during her declining years. Five years ago Mrs. Lund suffered a stroke from which she never fully recovered. Just before Christmas she suffered a second stroke and death came to her Tuesday, January 19, 1937, at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 2 days. She is survived by her granddaughter, Miss Hilda Peterson, two grandsons, Eldor Peterson of Albert City, Iowa and Gay Peterson of Macon, Mo., one great granddaughter, Donna Lee Peterson of Albert City, one brother, August Carlson of Fonda, and other relatives. Funeral rites for Mrs. Lund were conducted from the home at 1:30 p.m and at the Elfsborg Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 22, with the Rev. C. A. Benander officiating. Interment was made in the Elfsborg Cemetery beside her husband who died in 1921. Six nephews served as pall bearers and music for the services was furnished by the junior and senior choirs. Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Eldor Peterson and daughter, Donna Lee, of Albert City, August Carlson, Mrs. Sophie Carlson, Frank Carlson, Mr. Merke, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Herke and daughter, Francis, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Spencer and son Lloyd, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Calrson, Edwin Carlson, Alden Carlson, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Carlson, all of Fonda and Mr. and Mrs. Morris Carlson of Pocahonta.
