Former Pastor Dies in Missouri
Dr. Charles Elmer Chapler was born in Princeton, Ill., October 1, 1864. He moved to Fort Dodge with his parents when a small boy and spent his boyhood and young manhood there. Soon after his graduation from Fort Dodge high school in 1886, he was made principal of the Arey school in Fort Dodge. Dr. Chapler was a member of the First M. E. church of Fort Dodge, when he entered the ministry of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1890 and he has served continuously at various chares covering a period of 43 years. He held the following pastorates in the Northwest Iowa conference: Lohrville, Dayton, Pomeroy, Swaledale, Belmond, Eagle Grove, Cherokee and Rockwell City. At the beginning of the war he entered the Y. M. C. A. work at Camp Dodge, serving there during the war. After the war he became pastor of the First M. E. Church, Des Moines, and during his pastorate his church entertained his general conference of the Methodist Church. On November 12, 1932, while planning his work for the Home for the Aged at Marionville of the Missouri M. E. Conference, he quietly passed away at his home at Springfield.
