E. H. Kleen Dies Monday Morning
Enne Harms Kleen, an old and respected resident of Pomeroy, passed away at his home in here at about 5 o’clock Monday morning, after an illness of about ten days with paralysis.
Obituary – Enne Harms Kleen was born Feb. 19, 1855 at Ostgrossefehn, Ostfriesland, Germany. He was baptized March 2, 1855, and confirmed Feb. 16, 1872, in a church at Aurichofalvendorf. He was married in 1880 to Gretje Weimers and to this union was born eight children, four sons and four daughters. Two sons passed away in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. Charles Kleen, passed away Aug. 16, 1930. The surviving children are Harm Kleen, Charles Kleen, Mrs. Moench, Mrs. Henry Jensen and Mrs. Wm. Becker. Mr. and Mrs. Kleen came to this country in 1884 settling first in the vicinity of Pomeroy. Mr. Kleen for a few years was employed on the railroad, then went to a farm which was their home until retiring in 1912. Since 1912 Mr. and Mrs. Kleen have made their home in Pomeroy. Mr. Kleen was taken ill with a paraletic stroke Nov. 4th, and after illness of ten days, he passed away quietly, Monday morning about 5 o’clock, Nov. 14th. Surviving Mr. Kleen are his wife, his children and children-in-law, fourteen grandchildren, other relatives and a large number of friends. Funeral services were conducted Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. H. Meyer in charge. Burial in Union Cemetery. Pomeroy Herald, Pomeroy, Iowa, Thurs., Nov 17, 1932, p.1
