Rites Held Friday for Mrs. C. A. Marple
Funeral services for Mrs. C. A. Marple were conducted Friday afternoon, Oct. 27th at 2:15 o’clock in the home and at 2:30 in the Pomeroy M. E. Church. The Rev. J. E. Lombard, pastor, had charge of the services. A quartet of singers, R. A. Weidauer, Mrs. I. E. Coleman, Mrs. J. A. Peterson and Gordon Johnson sang several sacred numbers with Mrs. L. H. Ladd as accompanist. Paul bearers were R. C. Berry, L. H. Ladd, T. M. Wells, Chas. Long, W. A. Patrick and John Smith. The church was filled to overflowing with sorrowing relatives and friends. Interment was in Union Cemetery. All of Mrs. Marple’s children were in attendance at the services, those from a distance being Raymond Marple of New York City, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Marple and daughter and Roberta Marple of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Marple of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Spraktes and daughter of Imperial, Nebraska. Others from a distance were Mrs. Marple’s brothers, Howard Parker of Salt Lake City, Utah; Ray Parker and daughters, May and Hazel, and son, George, of Lodgepole, So. Dak.; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Parker of Sibley, and a sister, Mrs. Pearl Converse of Huron, So. Dak.
Obituary – Carrie M. Parker was born November 3rd, 1872 near Rockford, Illinois, and died October 25th 1933, at the age of 60 years, 11 months and 22 days. She came with her parents to Pomeroy in the spring of 1876, where they resided a short time and then moved to a farm five miles northwest of town, where she grew to womanhood. She taught county school for several years. October 12th, 1898, she was united in marriage to C. A. Marple, and to this union seven children were born who are as follows: Raymond of New York City, Lola at home, Clifford of Sioux City, Harold who died of pneumonia at the age of 18 months, Kenneth of Ames, Mrs. Doris Spraktes of Imperial, Nebr., and Roberta, who is taking nurses’ training in the Methodist hospital at Sioux City. She united with the Methodist Church early in life during the time the Rev. Charles Elmer Chapler was pastor in Pomeroy. She has always taken an active interest in the church and all of its activities. She was a faithful attendant at church services and felt it very keenly when illness compelled her to miss them. Her greatest interest was in her home and family, and she was always anxious to do something for others. One of the greatest disappointments she had to face was when illness compelled her to quit and let others wait upon her. She will be missed, but she has led the way into the Beautiful Land of Somewhere. We cannot bring her back, but where she has gone we may follow. Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn her loss three daughter-in-laws, Mrs. Bernice Marple of New York City, Mrs. Theda Marple of Sioux City, Mrs. Iris Marple of Ames; one son-in-law, Floyd Spraktes of Imperial, Nebr.; four brothers: Fred of Sibley, Roy of Lodgepole, So. Dak, Niles of Eiko, Nevada, and Howard of Salt Lake City; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Converse of Huron, So. Dak., and two grandchildren. Pomeroy Herald, Pomeroy, Iowa, Thurs., Nov 2, 1933, p.1
