Miscellaneous Early New Albin school records
1875-1890

Bonds * Teacher Contracts * Tuition Receipts * 1882 Student Roster

I purchased an old record book at a flea market in Allamakee county some years ago and thought that the Allamakee county researchers might find it of value. It contains various types of records: teacher contracts, receipts for tuition, treasurers & secretary bonds, and a list of students likely from the 1882 term. The various documents in the record book have been glued into the binder, and in many cases glued together, making it impossible to separate the records without destroying them. I've transcribed many of them as presented on this page. All comments enclosed in [brackets] have been added by me. I have done my best to accurately transcribe the names in the documents, but the handwriting was sometimes very difficult to read. The researcher should expect errors.

Currently, I've only scanned a couple of these documents, but should you find your ancestor's record here, and would like a scan of the document, please email the Allamakee co. Coordinator, and I'll add it to this page & email to you. Please be specific in your request.

Student Roster - Record of Attendence

There is one page in this record book where I can read student names. I'm fairly certain it is for the spring term 1882 (April, May, possibly June), but the page has been firmly glued together with a couple other pages and I can't see the date. On the back-side of this page is another student roster, but I can't see the student names, only the date which is 1882.

The students listed are:

Herman Johnson, age 8
Henry Till, age 8
Stephen Smernd, age 10
Salina Worley, age 7
Charlie Irons, age 7
Charlie Straka, age 6
Charlie Martin, age 7
Gustie Spelling, age 7
