The depot was built in 1872, with the first station agent being R.F. Giles.   1898 saw a great improvement at the depot. A nice brick walk took the place of the old wooden platform, adding much to the appearance of the place. The depot has since been moved onto a lot on 1st and Elm Street to be used as a private home.   For many years, the railroad was an important asset to New Albin. It was used not only for hauling grain and livestock, but also for passengers and mail until about 1950.
