RETURN OF WAR DEAD FOR BURIAL

Bodies From Pacific Area Arrive In U. S.

Two soldiers from Council Bluffs are included in the 2,012 war dead who have been returned to the United States from the Pacific area aboard the army transport Sgt. Jack J. Pendleton, the department of the army announced Tuesday.

They are Pvt. William S. Cohrs and Pfc. Alvin G. Kemplin, both of the army.

Bodies Returned from Italy, Africa

The bodies of 20 southwest Iowa war dead have been returned to the United States from the Mediterranean area aboard the army transport Cpl. Eric G. Gibson, the department of the army announced Sunday. A total of 111 remains were returned to next of kin in Iowa.

Three former members of Company F, Villisca national guard unit, are in the shipment: Sgt. George Comley of Villisca [Montgomery Co], Sgt. Albert W. Rider of Nodaway [Adams Co.] and S. Sgt. Clarence T. “Monty” Storm of Macedonia [Pottawattamie Co.].

BODIES OF WAR DEAD RETURNED

Eighty-five Iowans are among the remains of 2,918 Americans who lost their lives during World War II and were due to arrive from Europe aboard the U.S. Army transport, Haiti Victory, Thursday.

Armed forces dead originally interred in temporary military cemeteries in northern France, Holland, and Luxembourg are among those being brought to their homes in this country.

Bodies Arrive From Overseas

Forty-five Iowans are among the remains of 2,554 Americans who lost their lives in World War II, whose bodies were due to arrive from the Mediterranean area Saturday aboard the Army transport, John L. McCarley.

Armed forces dead originally interred in temporary military cemeteries in North Africa and Italy are among those brought back.
